Unmet Load

Unmet Load components are special "last resort" generators with very high penalty costs. They allow the optimization to solve even when demand cannot be fully met, providing diagnostic information about system capacity shortfalls.

An unmet load component is connected to exactly one bus. If it dispatches in your results, this indicates insufficient generation or transmission capacity to meet demand at that location.

Diagnostic Component

Unmet Load should only dispatch when the system genuinely cannot meet demand. If you see unmet load in results, it typically indicates a modeling issue or genuine capacity shortage that needs attention.

Attributes

Unmet Load components have two types of attributes:

  • Inputs - Parameters you set that define characteristics
  • Outputs - Results calculated by the solver
